NEW - Metabolic Testing

Weight control is about energy balance. Whether you are planning to lose weight or maintain your current weight, it is important to know where your energy balance lies. This can be done by determining your resting metabolic rate (RMR). Typically an RMR is determined using a formula, based on your weight, height and age. However, this method does not take into account individual nuances.  Measuring your actual metabolism in our office will give us an exact measurement of your RMR.

About the test:

We use the FDA approved REEVUE indirect calorimeter to measure your resting metabolic rate (RMR). During the test you will be asked to recline in a comfortable chair and simply breathe calmly for ten minutes into a mouthpiece that is attached to the REEVUE indirect calorimeter. The key is to relax and be as still as possible while breathing normally.

Preparation for the test:

What else do you get in this weight management package?

Along with metabolic testing, we will also measure your body composition (lean body mass vs., fat mass) with our bioelectrical impedance analyzer. Once your metabolic rate (RMR) is measured, one of our dietitians will review the results with you and tell you if your metabolism is low, normal, or high. She will then use the RMR to calculate your recommended energy (calorie) intake for the specific weight goals that you set together. This information will be incorporated into a menu plan customized for you. You will also receive a body weight monitoring record and a food journal to use when tracking your progress.
